DESCRIPTION:
Slow growing understory palm with a slender stem ringed with old leaf scars; long-stalked pinnate dark green fronds 6 – 10 ft. long; in summer bears star-shaped green female and male pale brown flowers in erect and later pendent axillary clusters of spikes 3 ft. long followed by ellipsoid orange-red fruit; may grow to 60 ft. in nature
CULTIVATION:
Water moderately; fertilize monthly; bright, indirect light
PROPAGATION:
Sow seed when ripe
COMMENTS:
Considered “vulnerable” by the World Conservation Union
