Domino Cockroach, Therea petiveriana
The domino cockroach is one of the more attractive cockroach species. They are native to southern India. Their brightly contrasting black and white pattern is thought to have evolved to mimic a similarly patterned ground beetle that can spray chemical irritants as a defensive strategy. These roaches are often found burrowed under leaf litter or loose soil and they typically feed on decomposing plant matter. Like termites, these roaches have symbiotic gut organisms that aid in their digestion.
