Rhizomatous perennial with ovate, lance-shaped green leaves with yellow striations; flower is actually 3 petals and 3 sepals hidden under extravagant stamens; grows 3 – 5 ft.
CULTIVATION:
Keep soil moist; remove spent blooms to promote flowering; fertilize monthly; bright sun
PROPAGATION:
Divide rhizomes into sections leaving an “eye” on each part
COMMENTS:
The plant yields a fibre from the stem and serves as a jute substitute
