FRONTLINE FLOATER – CUSTOME SERVICE
OVERVIEW
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is a unique and high-profile tourist attraction located in Cambridge Ontario. The Customer Service Representative is responsible for greeting visitors, processing admissions, providing visitor information, processing gift store transactions as well as assisting with coverage for a gift store, admissions, and café coverage.
Contract Duration: March – September
Hours
- Up to 30 hours per week
- Weekend and weekday shifts
- Scheduled shifts subject to change based on business needs
- Staff is required to be available for our busiest events including Family Day weekend, March Break, Easter weekend, Canada Day weekend, July and August, Labour Day weekend, and Christmas break, etc.
(PLEASE NOTE: The Conservatory is OPEN all other major holidays, with the exception of December 24-25-26.)
Requirments
- Exceptional customer service and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership skills, responsible and enthusiastic attitude
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Background knowledge in nature study, interpretation, and education is an asset
- Standard First Aid and Level C- CPR qualifications
- Current Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
- Eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Job Program
Responsibilities
Gift Store & Admissions & Café
- Greeting Visitors in a friendly and enthusiastic manner
- Providing information to visitors and answering phone inquiries
- Processing transactions in multiple departments (Gift Store, Admissions, Café), memberships and renewals, online tickets etc.
- Tagging inventory and stocking shelves as required
- Preparing cooked meals in the café (training will be provided)
- Assist with food service in café as required
- Provide coverage for lunches and breaks in the Gift Store, Admissions Counter, and Café
Conservatory
- Greet and welcome visitors and support them in their visit to the Conservatory
- Assist visitors in their discovery of the Conservatory and exhibits by engaging them in conversation about interesting/unique facts
- Assist visitors in identifying butterflies, plants, and birds in the Conservatory as required
- Ensure pathways in the conservatory are tidy and free from slip & trip hazards including plant material
- Keep windows, surfaces, exhibits, and signage clean in work and display areas
- Assist with care and feeding of birds, butterflies, fish, turtles, plants, and other insects/arachnids as instructed by the Conservatory Manager
Additional Duties
- Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned
- Adhere to all Company policies, rules, systems, and procedures which are outlined in the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory Employee Handbook, as well as all Health and Safety policies and procedures and safe work practices
Uniform

Endangered Butterfly Conservation Lab Technician
OVERVIEW
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is a unique and high-profile tourist attraction located in Cambridge Ontario. This candidate will work as part of a team on the captive rearing of the endangered Mottled Duskywing butterfly for reintroduction to suitable sites in Ontario. This work will be conducted in the Butterfly Conservation Lab onsite Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory. In this role, the candidate will contribute to filling critical knowledge gaps about this species, and will gain hands-on experience with insect rearing, including egg-laying, larval development, morphometric characteristics, diapause regulation, and host plant density dependence. Time will be spent taking observations of developing larvae, provisioning larvae with food plants, cleaning captive rearing enclosures, and managing host plants (planting, weeding, watering, etc). Some time may be spent in the field collecting and/or replacing host plants and butterflies. The successful candidate will gain valuable STEM experience in experimental design, data collection, captive rearing, plant propagation, fieldwork, and species at risk conservation and recovery. The tasks and responsibilities of this position respect individual human rights in Canada.
Contract Duration and Compensation:
- 37.5 hours/week for 9 weeks, starting June 13th, with the possibility for extension in the fall (part-time)
- Hourly wage of $16.50

Cafe Cook and Kitchen Attendant

Responsibilities
Café
- All daily operations including but not limited to cooking, cleaning, customer service, opening & closing etc.
- Greet customers, receive customer orders, process point of sale transactions, stock preparation areas, maintain a tidy and clean workspace

- Bus tables, dishwashing, cleaning, sweeping and mopping
- Comply with government food safety and health & safety standards

Frontline – Nature Interpreter

- Weekend and weekday shifts; scheduled shifts subject to change based on business needs
- Staff are required to be available for our busiest events including: Family Day weekend, March Break, Easter weekend, Canada Day weekend, Labour Day weekend and Christmas break etc.

Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a field related to science and/or education preferred (Eg. Biology, entomology, ecology, education, early childhood education, tourism & recreation)

Responsibilities*
Education and Interpretation
- Greet and welcome visitors and support them in their visit of the Conservatory
- Actively engage with visitors in the Conservatory at all times
- Assist visitors in their discovery of the Conservatory and exhibits by engaging them in conversation about interesting/unique facts
- Assist visitors in identifying butterflies, plants and birds in the Conservatory
- Deliver educational programs to a variety of audiences, including but not limited to (as public health Covid-19 guidelines permit):

- Special events (i.e. Family Fun Day, Insect Encounters for parties, etc.)
- Offsite/Outreach programs

Conservatory Maintenance
- Ensure pathways in conservatory are tidy and free from slip & trip hazards including plant material
- Keep windows, surfaces, exhibits and signage clean in work and display areas
- Assist with care and feeding of birds, butterflies, fish, turtles, plants and other insects/arachnids as instructed by Education Coordinator, Conservatory Manager, Conservatory Supervisor
Front Line Resource Staff
- Operate till and process financial transactions in Gift Store, Admissions Counter, Gift Store, and Café
- Assist with food service in Café
Other Duties as Required
- Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned.
