How warm is the Conservatory?

The Conservatory temperature ranges from 24°C (75°F) to 28 ºC (82°F) with high humidity. Please dress in layers.

Are the butterflies real?

Yes! Our butterflies arrive in the pupa stage as cocoons or chysalides from Costa Rica and the Philippines. We hang them up in the Emergence Window where the butterfly can hang to dry its wings once it emerges. When it’s ready, it then takes its first flight into the Conservatory.

May I take pictures?

Flash photography is permitted in the Conservatory and Galleries but tripods are not. Amateur photographers may reserve a time before business hours (8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. daily, depending on availability) to take pictures in the Conservatory. In this instance only, tripods are acceptable but must be taken down when the building is open to the general public at 10:00 a.m. Call 519-653-1234 x. 100 to reserve a time.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

The facility and front gardens are entirely wheelchair accessible. If you require the use of a wheelchair, we have one available. Please call ahead to reserve use of the wheelchair.

May I bring my stroller through the Conservatory?

Strollers are permitted in the Conservatory. Please just be aware that our pathway is only so wide, and the edges are raised. Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory reserves the right to limit the use of strollers during March Break Bugfeast. Umbrella strollers are available to borrow on a first come first serve basis.

Are dogs or pets allowed into the Conservatory?

Due to the nature of our tropical environment, only service dogs are permitted into the Conservatory. No other animals are allowed.

Where can I have lunch outside?

Seasonal outdoor picnic tables are available on a first come first serve basis. In the event of rain, other arrangements will have to be made for your lunch, as you are unable to bring outside food into the facility.

Do you have outdoor gardens and walking trails?

The outside gardens are currently being designed and developed. Over the next five years, these gardens will surround the facility and provide you with another opportunity to learn and appreciate the art of gardening. Proposed garden areas include a Butterfly Garden, Alzheimer Garden, a Labyrinth and Native Grasses Garden. More information will become available as our outdoor gardens grow. The walking trails are closed.

Can I get there by public transit?

Unfortunately, you are unable to reach Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory by public transit.

Is there a fee for parking?
