Outreach Programs

Can’t make it to us? Let us come to you – it’s the next best thing! Our Outreach Programs provide a hands-on educational experience that’s interactive and engaging for all ages. Let our experienced Nature Interpreters bring an exciting learning environment to your classroom, youth, or community group. We are able to customize programs to meet your group’s needs.

School Visits

Have an experienced Nature Interpreter join your class, and add fun and inquiry to any unit. Visits include interactive curriculum-linked activities, as well as a visit with members of our Insect Petting Zoo!

Program Length: 60 minutes

Cost: $300 (+HST) for up to 35 students. Discounts available for multiple programs per school. Additional mileage charges may apply for visits outside Waterloo Region. ($1.25 per km over 60km round trip)

Availability: We run our programs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in two time slots: 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m and 12:30 p.m to 1:30 p.m.

Program Options:

JK to Grade 2: Explore the mystery of butterflies with a visit from some live butterflies! Students will be introduced to butterfly patterns and life cycle through different species.

Grade 3 – 8: Explore the diversity of life with our tropical insects and learn about each critter’s life and interactions with its environment.

Fall  – Marvelous Monarchs: An active program that uses games and co-operative activities to help children learn about Monarchs, and their amazing migration to Mexico each year! We’ll bring our live Monarch butterflies and caterpillars with us! Suitable for any grade level.

Customized Program:  Our Nature Interpreters can tailor themes to your meet students’ interests and needs.

Day Camps & Libraries

Activities include stories, songs, games, and other hands-on learning. Topics include Monarch Migration, the Butterfly Life Cycle, and Parts of an Insect. Additional topics may be arranged upon request.

Program Length: 60 minutes

Cost: starting at $300 (+ HST). Discounts are available for multiple programs per visit. Additional mileage charges may apply for visits outside Waterloo Region.

Program Options:

Tropical Bugs  – $325 + tax : Learn about the world of insects and meet some live tropical bugs up close! (Note: this program can only be offered indoors)

Creepy Crawley Critter Show – $300 + tax: A game-show style program that challenges students to use their senses to explore and discover the diversity of insect life!

Monarchs & Pollinators  – $300 + tax: An active program that uses games and cooperative activities to help children learn about Monarchs, and their amazing migration to Mexico each year!

Fairs & Festivals

INSECT PETTING ZOO

This type of program is a great addition to your next gathering, fair, or open house. We’ll bring along our tropical critters to see and (if you are brave enough) touch and hold! We’ll also set up a display of educational information on topics like Monarch Migration or Butterfly Gardening. Additional topics may be arranged upon request.

NOTE: Outdoor events will be limited to native critters only.

Program Length: 60 minutes

Cost: starting at $350 (+ HST), additional hours of the Insect Petting Zoo may be added for an additional fee.

Presentations:

For community groups like seniors, naturalist clubs, community centres, etc.
Let one of our engaging Nature Interpreters come present to your group about a topic of your choice (see offerings below)! Our educational presentations last 30 – 40 minutes with time at the end for some questions. Tropical insects & invertebrates can also be brought along for an extra fee, provided the location is indoors. Additional topics may be arranged upon request.
