Class Visit Quick Facts

What Students Will Experience

Classroom & Live Insect Encounter

Students enjoy a curriculum-connected learning session focused on butterflies, insects, and ecosystem interactions.

This portion of the program includes hands-on learning stations and a live insect encounter, where students meet some of our tropical insects up close with support from our education team.

Tropical Greenhouse Visit

Students explore the tropical greenhouse in small groups facilitated by a Nature Interpreter and adult supervisors.

During the visit, students observe thousands of free-flying butterflies, tropical plants, birds, fish, turtles, and other features of the greenhouse. Students also visit the Emergence Window, where they can learn how butterflies emerge from their chrysalides, dry their wings, and prepare for flight.

Insect Galleries

Students continue their learning in the insect galleries, where they observe live insects and preserved specimens from around the world.

This part of the visit encourages close observation, comparison, and discussion about insect adaptations, habitats, and diversity.

Education programs are offered on select weekdays from September to June. Availability varies by season, so early inquiries are encouraged.

Supervisors

Teachers, ECE’s and other adult supervisors: Supervising adults are admitted free (ages 3-12 up to 9 free adults and ages 13 – 17 up to 4 free adults).
Additional adults added to your school booking receive a 20% discount (plus HST) on admission if added at the time of booking.

Please collect payment from these adults ahead of time and include them in your payment for the group.

Educational Assistants (including 1:1 support workers): Admission for EA’s is free but must be discussed with the Booking Coordinator at time of booking.

CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING

An education program booking is not finalized until payment is received. Once you have selected a date and time for your education program, we will hold your date up until 14 days before the visit. If payment is not received 14 days before the program, your booking is forfeited.

PAYMENT

Payment is due in one lump sum at time of booking, and/or at least 14 days in advance of visit.

We are now accepting e-transfers at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory for education program payments. To make a payment, please send an e-transfer to accounting@cambridgebutterfly.com. *Please note the Program date, Teacher names or School name in the e-transfer message and note the password in a separate email if required.  Once the transfer is complete, the Administrative Coordinator team will forward you an updated invoice to the email they have on file.

Annual passes are not valid for this program.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellation of an education program within 14 days of your booking will result in a $50 (+HST) cancellation fee.

Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory reserves the right to cancel or postpone a program in the event of inclement weather. We will do our best to contact you as soon as possible once this decision is made. Groups will have the option to reschedule their visit.
